SEAN ROBLEDO EDGAR

Sean R. Edgar has 23 years of public policy development and field experience in transportation, construction and air quality projects for clients in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Edgar gained experience in the public policy arena while serving in the Office of Governor Pete Wilson. There, he participated in the formation of the California Environmental Protection Agency in 1991-1993.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Edgar’s efforts in consulting practice consisted of association management and regulatory advocacy, relating to transportation and air quality issues. Mr. Edgar has an established presence at the California Air Resources Control Board (CARB) since the September 2000 adoption of the Diesel Risk Reduction Plan (DRRP) and has participated in every major on-road and off-road rulemaking for more than twelve years. Among his other accomplishments, he represented the private solid waste collectors (California Refuse & Recycling Council) in the development and implementation of the CARB Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Rule, the first private carrier rule enacted by CARB. In 2009, Mr. Edgar was appointed by CARB to their Truck Regulations Advisory Committee. In 2011, he was authorized by CARB through a competitive bid process to train business owners about CARB rules. In the past two years, he has educated more than 4,000 fleet owners in six western states through over 150 personal appearances. He is a recognized expert regarding on-road fleet rule implementation and technology options.

Mr. Edgar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley. Additionally, in 2006, he earned an Air Quality Management Certificate from California State University Fresno Extension and has completed substantial technical training and continuing education in the fields of environmental law and regulation, hazardous materials management, and occupational safety and health.


TERRY R. HEAD
President
International Association of Movers
 

Mr. Head began his career in the moving and storage industry in 1969 working as a driver’s helper and packer. He had worked his way up through the industry serving in various administrative, sales, management and ownership positions for both moving and freight forwarding entities.

Prior to taking on the reins as president of the IAM (HHGFAA) president in 1997, Mr. Head simultaneously served as a shareholder and President of several Washington, D.C. area firms that specialized in providing a broad range of warehousing and logistical services; including moving and storage, office and industrial relocations, international shipping of household goods and general commodities, as well as record and media storage.

IAM represents 2300 + transportation service providers and vendors in the United States and over 170 other countries around the world. Well over two-thirds of the membership is located outside the USA. The IAM membership consists of movers, ocean and air carriers, trucking firms, port agents, customs brokers, packaging suppliers, insurance adjusters, software developers and transportation consulting firms.

Mr. Head is the Publisher of IAM’s The Portal magazine and represents his Membership and the Industry in attending and addressing various conferences and workshops held around the world. On a variety of occasions, Mr. Head has testified on behalf of his Industry before the United States Congress, as well as, other Federal Regulatory Agencies.

While still in the industry, Mr. Head managed the logistical activities of such clients as the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and The World Bank, the US Department of State and numerous other Federal Government Agencies and foreign Embassies.

TIM HELENTHAL
President and COO
National Van Lines, Inc.
 

Tim Helenthal serves as the President and COO of Broadview, Illinois-based National Van Lines, Inc.

Tim began his career in the moving and storage industry in 1994, as Manager of the Total Quality Assurance Program (TQAP) for National’s military division. In 2000, he was named Vice President of Agency Services for military.

His experience with TQAP, led Tim to develop in-company programs which identify and select quality suppliers for household goods relocations, while monitoring trends within the DoD Personal Property Program, and interpreting and executing ever-changing government guidelines. He oversaw the development of National’s “PREVENT” quality control program which includes the Military Procedures Manual, a DOD specific training resource for all moving agents and drivers.

Committed to industry improvements, Tim currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee for the Government Traffic Committee for the American Moving & Storage Association, was elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Movers and is Chairman of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Household Goods Sub-Committee.

Tim attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL where he received a B.A. in Economics in 1990 and an M.A. in Economics in 1991.


PAT LARCH

Pat Larch is President of the UniGroup, Inc. Transportation Services Group with overall management responsibility for United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit.Pat joined the UniGroup companies in 1980 as vice president of United Leasing, now known as Trans Advantage. He subsequently served as executive vice president and president of United Leasing. In 1989, he was appointed vice president operations for United Van Lines. He later served as president and chief operating officer of United until gaining responsibility for both United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit in 1998. Today in his role of President, UniGroup Transportation Services, Pat is President and Chief Operating Officer of both United Van Lines, LLC and Mayflower Transit, LLC.Mr. Larch earned his bachelors degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Detroit.

KATRINA BLACKWELL
President
American Red Ball Transit Co., Inc.


A native of Noblesville, Indiana, Katrina Blackwell joined American Red Ball in 1975 and has witnessed many transformations of the company prior to acquiring ownership with her partners COO Brad Beal and CFO Dave Combs, both long-time colleagues in 2001.

She began her career with Wheaton Van Lines in 1969 working in the claims department. After joining American Red Ball, Katrina worked in a variety of positions including claims and government services during which time she rose to the position of Vice President of both Government Services and Sales & Marketing. In 1997, while the company was owned by Atlas World Group, she was appointed President.

Founded in 1919, American Red Ball has survived many changes in the moving industry. Under the current ownership, its revenue has nearly doubled with the addition of Red Ball Moving & Storage of Indiana and an International Division in 2006. The collaborative efforts of the partners have served the company well in the 21st century.

An active member of the American Moving & Storage Association since 1984, Katrina has served on various committees until becoming a board member in 1997. Currently, she serves on the Executive Committee in addition to chairing the Moving & Storage Institute, which funds industry research, training and scholarships.

Katrina has served on the board of Girls Inc. of Indianapolis and was a board member of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce for 10 years during which time she chaired the Transportation Task Force. She has been featured in Indianapolis Woman, is an alumni member of TEC (Now, it is Vistage — a peer group for CEOs) and is currently involved in the Indiana Historical Society.

 


DAN ROBERTSON
Vice President & General Manager of Moving Services
North American Van Lines

 

Dan Robertson began his career with North American Van Lines as a student while attending Loyola College in Montreal, Canada. After university, he joined Westmount Moving, a subsidiary of North American Van Lines in Montreal.

Dan spent the first 15 years of his career running moving & storage companies owned by NAVL in Canada. Starting in operations and later in sales and general management, he eventually became responsible for all the household goods and logistics operations of NAVL Canada before moving to the U.S. in 1991.

Dan has held several executive positions with North American Van Lines including quality, strategic planning, sales, operations and business development. His current role is Vice President & General Manager of Moving Services for North American Van Lines (US & Canada).



MORRIE STEVENS, JR.

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines is an internationally recognized industry leader, and employs approximately 500 individuals during peak season. Stevens has nine company owned offices, over 500 agents nationwide and more than 700 international agents. Stevens corporate headquarters is located in Saginaw, Michigan, while Stevens International Forwarders operates from Columbia City, Indiana. The ownership of Stevens Van Lines is unique, as it is owned 70% by the Stevens Family and 30% is owned by the employees.

Morrie Stevens, Jr. attended Western Michigan University and graduated from The Hayworth College of Business in December 1995 where he concentrated on Marketing and Business Management. Like many family moving businesses Morrie started working on the trucks at an early age. Over the years he has held various positions at Stevens and in 2006 he was promoted to Vice President and heads up the growth of the Stevens Agency system.

Morrie is a graduate of AMSA's Young Executive Program and a 1999 graduate of AMSA's Mentor Program. Morrie is a member of AMSA’s Education Committee. He is also registered as a CMC and is RIM certified.


 

MATTHEW DOLAN
Chief Operating Officer
Arpin Group, Inc.

 

Matt Dolan is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Arpin Group, Inc. In this capacity, he is responsible for formulating business strategies and operational plans to ensure the competitive position and profitability of all lines of business. Matt works closely with Arpin’s Board of Directors and is a member of its Management Committee.
 
In addition to his role as COO, Matt is Arpin’s Senior Vice President, Military Services. He is responsible for all Arpin Group’s Domestic and International Military programs. This business line continues to grow under Matt’s leadership. In fact, Arpin annually moves over 12,000 military families with the goal of treating every military member with the same honor and dignity with which they service our nation.
 
Prior to joining Arpin Group in 2006, Matt had spent the past 23 years in the U.S. Navy. A native of Cranston, Rhode Island, Captain Dolan graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1983 and received his commission through Navy ROTC. Upon completion of flight trainin, he was designated a Naval Aviator in May 1985. In October 1993, he received a Master of Science in Operations Research/Applied Mathematics.
 
Captain Dolan retired with over 4,000 flight hours and numerous personal and unit awards.


JEFF SCHIMMEL

Atlas Van Lines

 

Jeffery Schimmel became the Vice President of Transportation Services in February of 2013.  Jeff has worked for Atlas since 1984, when he started as a dispatcher.  He then went on to become planner, then in 1992 was named Manager of Western Operations.  He was promoted in 1995 to Director of Region II, which includes the southwest and Western areas of the United States.  In August of 2009 Jeff was promoted to Senior Director of Transportation Services.  In his new position, Jeff overseas the daily business operations for both the household and special products  transportation groups, along with the Atlas Terminal Company, Safety Department, and Fleet Registration Department.

BRIAN FERGUSON

Brian Ferguson is the President & CEO of IGC Software.  Brian founded IGC in 1998 with the goal of improving the in-home surveying and estimating process leveraging new technologies.  IGC has grown to become a widely used surveying and estimating platform in the moving and storage industry.  IGC offers digital imaging and electronic signature functionality to eliminate the use of paper and improve the moving customer’s experience.  In 2011, IGC co-founded MobileMover with ACI/Windfall, and has brought to market a complete driver inventory application.

 

 



JOE BIPPEN

Joe Bippen is the Founder and Chairman of Asset Controls, Inc. For twenty years now, Joe has worked in the moving and storage industry after graduating from Missouri State University with a BS degree on a soccer scholarship. In 1992, Joe was hired out of college as a Project Manager for Graebel Van Lines.  During his three years with Graebel, Joe participated in all aspects of the business from customer service, to operations, to actual household and commercial moves. Joe started ACI with two other individuals in 1995 with the goal of providing inventory management to companies before and after moving but also helping the moving and storage industry become more automated in the area of inventory management. After hiring Steve Lassanske in 1996 and buying out the other two founders of the company in 2000, Joe and Steve are now the owners of the ACI.  Under their leadership, ACI has developed or co-developed many systems for the industry like Windfall, MobileMover (Co-developed and owned with IGC Software), and many other van line labeled products. Joe stays very active in the industry by attending and sponsoring all the major van lines conventions and conferences every year.  He also serves on the AMSA Board of Directors and Supplier Committee.  


 

MARK MILLIAN

Mark Millian wrote his first computer program as a student in 1977, and has been programming ever since. He holds a B.A. in Economics, and has been actively involved in the moving and storage industry since 1982. Mr. Millian is the chief development engineer of the CompuMove Mover's Enterprise Management system, and his combination of computer and accounting skills, and his long experience with our complex industry, make him uniquely qualified to fill this role.

Allan Lamar serves as President of EWS, the creators of MoversSuite, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software designed exclusively for professional moving and storage companies.  Allan began his career with EWS in 2006 after purchasing and implementing the software for Kloke Group, a multi-agency moving company, where he served as Vice President.  Prior to joining the moving industry, Allan accumulated more than 15 years of sales and management experience with both Fortune 100 and start-up companies, as well as military leadership experience.  

RON SHEA

Ron Shea served as Senior Vice President of Compusource until his retirement in 2013 after 35 years of service.   He spent the past 30+ years working with moving companies in an effort to improve their technology and procedures using software developed by and for movers.   Ron was involved in the development and rollout of Compusource’s comprehensive VanS Software System for the moving & storage industry.    He continues to assist Compusource with conventions and special projects.

Lynn Peterson is the founder, president and CEO of Techmate International. His company has been serving the relocation industry for more than 20 years ago. In 1989, Peterson worked as a software engineer, and saw the potential in bar-code scanning systems. He worked with a group of industry experts to create the initial Texlon scanning system. TechMate has come a long way since then and now provides a range of products across numerous hardware platforms, including: SalesMate, LoadMate and FirstMate.

Matt Connell began his corporate career in 1996 with Cameron and Barkley as a Sales Representative in Albany, GA.  He moved to Jacksonville, FL, in 1998 to join The Suddath Companies as an Agency Development Representative. He had an active career at Suddath culminating with his promotion to Director of Business Development in 2003. Matt recognized an underserved market segment in the Military Household Goods Industry in 2003 and started TMM, Inc. in October 2003. He hired his first 4 employees and procured office space in March 2004. The company has grown tremendously and TMM, Inc. is now the largest provider of SCAC services in the world. Matt has received the Jacksonville Businessman of the Year award in 2008. He has been a two-time finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and was also named the Ultimate CEO by the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Scott Michael serves as liaison to the Department of Defense, GSA, and other government customers of the moving and storage industry. He was previously AMSA’s Vice President for Membership and has held other positions with AMSA and the American Movers Conference over the past two decades. Scott also serves as a vice president of the National Defense Transportation Association, an organization of transportation providers which works in support of the military.

BRUCE WILLIAM BOYARKO

Bruce Boyarko started his moving experience working on trucks during college. He obtained a law degree and upon graduation took a staff attorney position with the Interstate Commerce Commission for two years while studying graduate law at Georgetown University. PepsiCo, Inc. hired Bruce to help transition its North American Van Lines subsidiary through transportation deregulation and to serve as special counsel in the areas of antitrust, franchise, labor and intellectual property law. While working on an MBA, Bruce went from the PepsiCo legal department into management at North American, eventually serving as its Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Planning. After holding a similar position at Bekins Van Lines, Bruce established a management consulting practice focused on strategic planning and business development, and a companion legal practice concentrating on business startup/expansion/ cessation. In addition to clients in the moving industry, Bruce has served businesses ranging from manufacturers to e-based start-ups and has a great deal of experience in change and process management and control. He serves as general counsel to Albert Companies, Inc. and represents other companies in the moving and storage industry on various matters.
